A little bit about Martina…
Growing up in Kildare, I always had an interest in food, during school holidays from the age of 15 I worked in Kitchens preparing vegetables, desserts and starters with the plan to attend college and become a chef.
When it came time to choose courses for college my first choice was the Chefs course in DIT Cathal Brugha Street.
As a backup I also applied for the Catering Management Course.
I was accepted into the Management course but was also called for an interview for the Chefs course. During my interview one of the college lecturers suggested that I take a year out as I was only 17 years old, however when I told her I had been offered the CATMAN Course she advised me to take it and let’s just say I haven’t looked back since.
I have now spent more than 30 years in the Catering Business and have worked in most areas of the business from Industrial Catering to Hotels to Small local Café’s to Fine Dining Restaurants.
A lot of people don’t realise that I am a very shy person, so being front of house really brought me out of my shell. I couldn’t imagine not dealing with people on a daily basis. You either love or hate dealing with the public and I love it (most of the time :-))
Working in Peploes for the past 6 years has been an absolute pleasure, the team here are like another family, working this closely for so long it’s almost like a marriage. We work together in sickness and health in good times and bad for better or worse. Of course the hours are long and sometimes it’s hard to juggle home life and work life but my husband Martin and my kids (now adults) have always supported my choices and I couldn’t do it without them
